Bay Wins Javelin, Murray Sets Three Personal-Records At The MSJ Invitational
CINCINNATI, Ohio.—The Fontbonne University track and field teams had strong performances in its final meet prior to the SLIAC Outdoor Championships as both the men and women’s teams ended up in fourth.
CINCINNATI, Ohio.—The Fontbonne University track and field teams had strong performances in its final meet prior to the SLIAC Outdoor Championships as both the men and women's teams ended up in fourth.
On the women's side, the big standout performance went to Emily Bay as she collected a win in the javelin with a mark of 29.96 m. Katie Gosser also competed in the event and finished in fourth at 26.10 m, while Sierra Moore hit a personal-record 25.22 m to close out in fifth.
Staying in the field events, Mackenze Daniel collected a new personal-record in the shot put at 35.59 m for third place. In the discus, it was Moore leading the Griffins with a second place finish as she hurled a mark of 34.66 m. Daniel took part in the event as well and rounded out in ninth (26.70 m).
In the shot put, the duo finished once more in the top-five. Moore squeaked past her previous mark to set a new personal-record at 10.99 m. Daniel, meanwhile, closed out in fourth at 10.01 m.
In the triple jump, Jaylah Jones missed her personal-record by .01 to finish in fifth (9.08 m). In the long jump, though she leaped her way to 3.98 m for seventh.
Another impressive performance by Fontbonne came in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Kayla Sheldon, Colleen Gosser, Bay and Katie Gosser timed out at 4:48.14 which is a top three record all-time.
The quartet also set a new personal-best time in the 4x100-meter relay at 56.71, narrowly beating its 56.82 time set back at the Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invite.
Bay continued to have a great day in the 100-meter dash. She set another personal-record time of 14.40 to finish in fourth. She also led the Griffins in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.63 for sixth. Sheldon ended up in eighth (31.24), while Jones crossed the line in ninth (31.74).
Sheldon ran in the 800-meter race and finished in sixth place at 2:46.20. Sarah Rhoads earned a third place finish for the Griffins in the 5000-meter run as she clocked out at 24:19.10.
In the 100-meter hurdles, the trio of Katie Gosser (20.58), Jones (21.45) and Colleen Gooser turned in impressive performances to finish in fourth, fifth and seventh place respectively. K. Gosser (1:23.31) and C. Gosser (1:27.89) ran in the 400-meter hurdles as well.
The men's team found plenty of success throughout the day. In the javelin, Greih Murray soared past his previous mark of 23.23 to finish in third today at 34.09 m. Hayden Yates ended in sixth at 18.41 m.
Murray notched another personal-best in the hammer with a toss of 26.90 m for sixth place. His third new record came in the shot put at 10.12 m, while his discus toss of 25.99 m was good enough for seventh.
In the long jump, Quinn Wilson was the lone competitor for Fontbonne and he landed at 5.29 m for ninth. Also, Wilson ended up in fifth (11.25 m) in the triple jump.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Wilson, Juwan Lee, Yates and Jacob Dixon sprinted its way to a time of 52.33 for third place. The same group competed in the 4x400-meter relay and timed out at 4:08.70.
Lee competed in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:20.41, while Dixon ran his way to a 14th place finish in the 1500.
