Zmuda And Brian Nguyen Set School Records At The Principia Relays

ELSAH, Ill.—The Fontbonne University track and field teams got its 2019 season underway today at the Principia Relays and the Griffins found plenty of success.
In the morning, the trio of Natalie Zmuda, Katie Gosser, and Maris Fusiek competed in the Pentathlon. In the 60-meter hurdles, Zmuda finished in third overall with a time of 10.46 which is a new school-record.
Katie Gosser followed in fifth with a time of 12.00, while Fusiek timed out at 14.41. In the high jump, K. Gosser just missed out on her personal-record with a clearance of 1.30 m. Zmuda and Fusiek also tied her for third place.
In the shot put, K. Gosser led with a mark of 7.88 m for fourth place. The duo of Fusiek and Zmuda tied at 6.39 m for sixth place. In the long jump, Zmuda finished just ahead of K. Gosser with a leap of 4.33 m for fourth place. K. Gosser landed at 4.30 m, while Fusiek finished out at 3.10 m.
Finally, in the 800-meter run, K. Gosser timed out at 2:56.72 for third place. Zmuda ran her way to a time of 3:05.94 for fifth, while Fusiek ended up at 3:40.75.
Overall, Zmuda totaled 2032 points which places her fifth all-time and is a new freshman record. K. Gosser closed out in fourth with 1960 points and Fusiek finished with 1024.
In the afternoon, on the women's side in the field events, Emily Bay got things started with a personal-record throw of 10.23 m in the weight throw. On her fourth and final throw, the Union, Mo., native, ended with another new personal-record mark of 10.56 m to conclude fourth overall in her flight and 13th place in the field.
Mackenze Daniel represented Fontbonne in Flight 2 and entering the event her previous personal-record was 12.07 m. Today, the Dearborn, Mo., native, cleared that easily at 12.50 m and that places her second all-time.
In the running events, Tamya Dixon ran her way to a time of 8.65 in the 60-meter dash which is second all-time. Destiny Jackson, meanwhile, crossed the line at 9.05. In the 200-meter dash, Dixon clocked out at 30.69 and Bay ended at 32.45.
On the men's side in the running events, Brian Nguyen broke his own school record by setting a new one today with a time of 7.44. He went on to compete in the 200-meter dash, won his flight, and set a personal-record at 24.47. Ahn Nguyen also competed in the same flight with Nguyen and concluded at 32.95.
In the field events, Hayden Thompson competed in the weight throw and he ended with a personal-best throw of 7.36 m. Greih Murray followed in the same event and rounded out his four throws with his first being the best at 9.82 m.
In the long jump, Thompson leaped his way to a mark of 4.28 m, while A. Nguyen's third attempt was his best at 3.82 m.
