ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Poll this afternoon. The women's team was picked to finish fourth, while the men come in at No. 5.
Last season, on the women's side, the Griffins ended up in third place at the SLIAC Outdoor Championship. The 4x100 relay team, the 4x400 relay team, Sierra Moore (shot put, discus), and Emily Bay (javelin) all earned all-conference honors at the event.
This year, the team brings back the majority of its roster, including seeing the likes of Raven Venegas and Jillian Venegas return to the roster. In 2017, Raven Venegas won the shot put and ended up in second in the discus at the SLIAC Championship.
Newcomers Tamya Dixon, Maris Fusiek, and Natalie Zmuda, whom have already made an impact during the indoor season, look to do the same once they get outdoor.
On the men's side, the group finished in seventh place at the 2018 SLIAC Outdoor Championship. This year, the team looks for strong performances out of Greih Murray and Juwan Lee, along with newcomers Austin Joyce, Anh Nguyen, and Hayden Thompson.
The team is back at it on March 29th at the WashU Distance Carnival.
