Women's Basketball wins season opener against Anderson University
St. Louis- It was a dual of women's basketball season openers between the Fontbonne University Griffins and the Ravens of Anderson University. The Griffins defeated the Ravens 74-61.
Statistically Fontbonne lef four of the six team categories. Anderson committed one less turnover and led the game in 3-pt percentage. Senior Allison Hogan led the Griffin offense, scoring a game high 7 field goals along with 7 free throws for game high 21 points. Freshman Nicole Joerger scored 18 points in the collegiate debut. Twelve of those were from the arc. Senior Hillary Johnson knocked down six jumpers and went 4-4 at the line to top off the Griffin point leaders (16 points).
Fontbonne freshman Samantha Voegtle grabbed 12 rebounds (8 defensive) to help her teammates run the floor. Also contributing to Griffin rebounds were Hogan (9) and junior Ava Johnson (8).
Fontbonne takes on Kenyon College tomorrow to round out the Anderson Tip-Off Tournament at 4pm.
