Hogan drains 4 of 5 3-point attempts
St. Louis- Fontbonne's women's basketball team ran away in the second half to beat the Blackburn College Beavers tonight 63-48. The Griffins improve to 5-10 on the season and rise to 4-2 in the SLIAC. Blackburn falls to 2-13 for the year and 2-5 in conference play.
Fontbonne jumped out to a 15-2 lead to give them their largest lead of the 1st half before Blackburn was able to connect on a free throw. With 11 minutes to go in the half, neither team would score a bucket for the next 3 minutes until a layup by Blackburn's Shelby Smith ended the drought. Within the final minute of the half Fontbonne's Hillary Johnson would connect on 2 3-pointers to help the Griffins edge a 9-point lead heading into the locker room.
During the second half, it was lights out for senior Allison Hogan. Hogan drained 4 of her 5 e-point attempts. Three of those were assisted by fellow senior Hillary Johnson. Hogan ended the night with 16 points. Ava Johnson totaled 12 points and contributed on 5 assists.
Blackburn's Shelby Smith and Briana Rae each recorded 12 points on the night. S. Smith also brought in 9 rebounds. The only other player in double-digits on the night was Beaver Danique Smith, recording 11 total points.
Fontbonne will travel down Big Bend to Webster on Thursday for a 6pm tip-off. The next Griffin home game is Saturday, January 26th at 1pm.
