The Fontbonne University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and a suffocating defense to cruise past University of St. Mary of the Woods 108-57. The Griffins improved to 2-0 on the season while St. Mary dropped to 3-3.
Fontbonne had 11 players score at least seven points in the game with freshman Amber Bruno leading the way with 12 points off the bench. The Griffins shot 48 percent from the field and dominated the boards outrebounding St. Mary 63-47. Junior Kristin Dempsey collected a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points while freshman Olivia Hollander had 10 boards and eight points.
The Griffins held St. Mary to 24 percent shooting from the floor and 6 percent (2-35) from the behind the arc. Fontbonne also forced 21 turnovers.
Fontbonne will return to the court tonight as they host Wartburg College at 7 pm.
