Knights Down Griffins 66-46
St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's basketball fell prey to their first loss of the season last night against Wartburg College. Both teams are now 2-1 on the season.
First half play was very slow with back and forth missed buckets. The Knights led 12-8 with 12 minutes to go and finished their 10-point run five minutes later leading 18-8. Wartburg would end the half with an 18-9 run, leading 36-17 heading into the locker room.
Both teams scored almost an even number of points during the second half, with Wartburg edging Fontbonne 30-29. The Knights secured their largest lead of the game (25 points) with 4:28 left to go.
Overall, Fontbonne's freshman Amber Bruno led the Griffins with 11 points off the bench, playing just 10 minutes. Bruno went 4-9 overall and 2-7 from thrre-point range. Senior Chelsey Freymuth notched 8 points for the Griffins.
Wartburg's Carly Jacobs (14) and Holly Hallstead (13) led the Knights offensively while Bobbi Burrows also contributed with double digit points (10) off the bench. Alyssa Sager was all over the boards compiling 12 rebounds and Mary Brown turned up 9 defensive rebounds to help her team control the ball.
Fontbonne has a week off before hosting St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Blackburn College Wednesday, December 4th at 6pm.
