Women's Basketball Falls to Westminster on the Road
St. Louis- Struggling without senior forward Chelsey Freymuth, the Griffins fell to Westminst College last night 85-50. Fontbonne falls to 2-4 in conference play, with Westminster directly above Fontbonne in SLIAC standings at 3-3.
Tied at eight, the Blue Jays went on a scoring frenzy, for a 14-2 run against the Griffins and a 22-10 lead. At the half, Fontbonne was down 21-40.
Shooting struggles continued into the second half as the Blue Jays scored 45 more points while Fontbonne managed to put 29 on the board. Griffin forward Olivia Hollander was the only player to record a double-double on the night, scoring 16 points while bringing in 10 rebounds. Teammate DeAmbra Pilkinton scored 19 points for her season-high.
As a team, Fontbonne blanked on three-pointers, missing all 14 attempts, and shot about 35% from the field. Westminster's 49% average held the upper hand.
Leigh Ann Lutz scored 19 points for Westminster, tying the game-high.
The Griffins host Spalding University this Saturday for a 1pm rematch.
