Griffins Break Four-Game Losing Streak
St. Louis- Women's basketball broke a four-game losing streak last night, serving up a 69-46 win against Principia College.
Principia got out to a 6-1 lead, but Fontbonne's full-court pressure caused multiple turnovers allowing the Griffins to tie the game at eight. The press also caused multiple 10-second backcourt turnovers and two shotclock violations within the first half. Fontbonne led by 16 at the half and controlled most of the second-half offense.
Nicole Joerger shot a Griffin-high four treys on eight attempts while Emily Haring was three for five from long range. Joerger totaled 14 points on the night. Chelsey Freymuth posted 12 points off the bench in 17 minutes of play. Chelsy Gibson and Kristen Dempsey each grabbed seven rebounds.
Spencer Randolph and Karina Olsen stayed on the court for all 40 minutes of play for Principia. Randolph totaled 15 points and Olsen 14. Olsen was 7-11 from the field. Principia's Rachel Perea got into foul trouble early while sister Isabella Perea was forced to sub out twice due to injury. The Panthers blanked from long range shooting just 9.1%.
After travelling to Iowa Wesleyan on Thursday, the Griffins host MacMurray on Saturday at 1pm.
