SLIAC Announces Women's Basketball Preseason Poll
St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll has been released. The Griffins are polled to finish in seventh place for the 2014-2015 season. Iowa Wesleyan University was picked as the preseason favorites after a 17-1 conference record last year.
Last season Fontbonne University women's basketball ended with a 8-17 overall record and went 6-12 in conference. This year the Griffins will be under new head coach Maureen (Roberts) Sias. Sias adds alum Michelle Reale to her coaching roster and both coaches are ready for what the young team brings to the court. The Griffins have just one senior and two juniors.
Fontbonne returns three of their top four scorers from last year's squad. Junior guard Nicole Joerger averaged 8.8 points per game while leading the team in three point shooting. Sophomore guard DeAmbra Pilkinton averaged 8.0 points per game while sophomore forward Olivia Hollander averaged 6.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and will give the team an inside presence. The Griffins also return sophomore playmaker Emily Haring who led the team in assists last season. A pair of freshman in Courtney Kedroski and Lexie Thompson should see plenty of valuable minutes on the court.
