Spalding breaks up Griffins' win streak
Louisville, Ky. - Spalding University handed the Fontbonne University women's basketball team their first loss in four games. The Griffins fell 65-45 to last season's SLIAC Tournament Champions. Fontbonne's overall record is now 6-6 and with a 2-3 SLIAC record.
Fontbonne managed just 16 points in the first half, 10 of which came from sophomore Chelsy Gibson. Fontbonne's shooting struggled as they maintained just 25% in the field before halftime. The Griffins couldn't stop Spalding's Jessica Guy who pulled down 17 rebounds and scored 13 points in the first half alone.
Fontbonne out-scored Spalding in the second-half 29-26. Fontbonne's Nicole Joerger scored nine points, the most of any player post-halftime.
Gibson finished with a Fontbonne-high of 13 points. She added nine rebounds and two steals to her totals. Emmie Haring gathered a game-high eight assists on the night.
Guy finished the game with 23 rebounds (16 offensive), 13 points, two blocks and a steal. Kayla Styles recorded 13 points and four blocked shots for the Golden Eagles.
