Griffins break losing streak; Haring records eight steals
St. Louis, Mo. - The Griffins opened up against the Principia College Panthers in a full-court press today and took an early 8-0 lead before ultimately winning 54-48. The win breaks a five-game losing streak for the Griffins and takes their overall record to 8-12.
After gaining the early lead, Fontbonne allowed Principia to get back within range (8-6), but the Griffins held the lead the entire game. At halftime Fontbonne led 24-17. Principia cut the Griffin's lead to three at the 11:26 mark but the Griffins extended their lead to seven points with just over five minutes to play.
Fontbonne's Emmie Haring pressured the ball, forcing seven turnovers in the second half alone, and totaled eight steals on the day. This is the second time this season Haring has accumulated eight steals in one game. She also walked away with 10 points and five assists. Chelsy Gibson had a bid day on the boards as the sophomore tallied 13 rebounds while Nicole Joerger was the high-scoring Griffin with 11 points.
Principia's Kara Johnson accumulated 22 points and 13 rebounds for the game's only double-double.
Fontbonne is at home again this Wednesday, February 11th as the Griffins take on Webster University in the Battle of Big Bend. The women's game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
