Iowa Wesleyan holds on for the win
Mount Pleasant, Iowa -Fontbonne women's basketball made the trip to Iowa Valentine's Day for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Iowa Wesleyan. Fontbonne suffered the loss, taking their season record to 5-9.
Play was back and forth in the first half with Iowa Wesleyan maintaining control. At halftime the Griffins trailed 39-29. Down by 10 points, Fontbonne notched two three-pointers in a row to pull within four points of the Tigers with 12:25 remaining in the game but the Griffins couldn't get any closer. The Tigers finished with the 86-73 win.
Chelsy Gibson's 12 points and six rebounds led the Griffins on the floor. Gibson shot 50% in the field and made all four free throw attempts. Fellow forward Olivia Hollander mustered 10 points and four rebounds while guard Lauren Willis secured 10 points as well.
Iowa Wesleyan's Rachel Grubb scored 22 points off the bench while Rachel Williams scored 19 points. Williams was 12-for-14 from the charity stripe.
Fontbonne travels to Fulton, Mo. for a SLIAC matchup against Westminster College this Wednesday, February 18th at 6 p.m.
