Griffins end season with win over Blackburn
Carlinville, Ill. - Fontbonne University women's basketball ended their 2014-15 season on a high note, defeating Blackburn College 80-61. The Griffins finished the season 11-14 overall and 7-11 in conference under new head coach Maureen Sias. The conference record was an improvement from the previous season while the team recorded the most wins in the last three seasons.
Fontbonne got off to a slow start in their final contest of the season, but slipped ahead of Blackburn 19-18 with 4:49 to play in the first half and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game. At halftime the Griffins led 27-22 and stormed ahead in the second half, going on an eight-point run to lead 41-27 with 14 minutes to play.Fontbonne secured a 24-point lead with just over a minute left in the game.
Sophomore DeAmbra Pilkinton scored a career-high 22 points in the win draining two of her three three-point attempts, while Erika Kuhn was the only Griffin recording a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Emmie Haring totaled 15 points and nine assists in the game while adding four steals to boot. Senior Kristin Dempsey recorded a season-high four blocks on the night.
