Turnovers doom Griffins while Jordan records first career double-double
Galesburg, Ill. - After leading 47-43 at halftime, Fontbonne women's basketball fell to Knox College 103-87. The Griffins are 0-2 on the season and open conference play at home on Wednesday.
Getting a four-point lead on Knox in the first period while both teams netted 21 points in the second period. The teams were tied going into the fourth period after Knox scored 23 points to Fontbonne's 19 in the third period.
With a tied score of 68 points apiece in the fourth period, Knox scored three treys and a bucket in one minute while the Griffins netted just one jump shot and the Prairie Fire never looked back. Knox nailed five of nine three-point attempts in the fourth period, leading to a 37-21 final advantage for the win.
For Fontbonne, freshman Jessica Jordan recorded her first career double-double and in only her second college game at that. Jordan recorded the game-high 20 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist in the loss. Junior Olivia Hollander added the game's only other double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Senior Nicole Joerger added 17 points and six rebounds off the bench while DeAmbra Pilkinton (14) and Chelsy Gibson (10) rounded out Fontbonne's double-digit scoring. Junior Emmie Haring recorded nine assists, six rebounds, five points and three steals in the contest as well.
Overall, Fontbonne out-shot Knox in two categories and out-rebounded themas well, but the Griffins' 31 turnovers ultimately cost them the game.
Fontbonne will host their home and conference openers against Blackburn College this Wednesday, December 2nd at 6 p.m.
