Pilkinton's 25 points not enough as Griffins continue to struggle on the road
Fulton, Mo. - After a tight start, Fontbonne women's basketball succumbed to Westminster College in the third set as the Blue Jays won their ninth consecutive contest. Fontbonne falls to 7-12 overall and 6-7 in SLIAC play. Westminster improves to 11-2 in conference, one of those losses coming from the Griffins earlier this season.
At halftime the Griffins trailed 42-36 but 7-14 rebounding disadvantage hurt the Griffins as Westminster increased their lead to 64-50 before starting the fourth quarter. Westminster rallied for a 20-point lead before winning 90-72.
DeAmbra Pilkinton posted a season and career-tying high 25 points, her third 20+ scoring effort in the last four games. The junior missed just one shot in the first and final frames and totaled 11-of-20 on the night. Olivia Hollander finished down low tonight with 15 points and seven rebounds while Erika Kuhn recorded 11 rebounds. All but one of Hollander's were on the defensive side of the ball.
Westminster's Krista Armontrout recorded the only double-double of the contest with 17 points and 13 rebounds, her fourth of the season.
Fontbonne hosts Webster University this Saturday, February 6th for a 1 p.m. Big Bend Showdown. At halftime the Griffins will host the Falcons in their annual special olympic game.
