Dallas' shooting hands Griffins first loss of the season
Women's basketball fell to the University of Dallas 60-50 despite earning 11 more rebounds.
Dallas, Texas - Fontbonne University women's basketball ends their Dallas trip 1-1 after falling to the University of Dallas 60-50 this evening despite outrebounding the host squad 37-26. The Griffins held an 18-3 offensive rebound advantage. Dallas shot with 48.8% accuracy in the field to earn their first win of the season.
The Griffins entered the fourth quarter trailing 38-37 when Dallas took a 49-43 lead. Four Griffin points pulled Fontbonne within two but Dallas put up a trey and a jumper to gain a seven-point lead of 54-47 with three minutes to play but they couldn't get any closer.
Sophomore Kaitlynn Walker led the Griffins in scoring once again with 15 points and nine rebounds while freshman Katie Sportsman was right behind her with 13 points and eight rebounds. Sportsman missed just one free throw on six attempts as the Griffins made 15 of 16 attempts on the night.
Fontbonne struggled behind the arc and in the field. The Griffins only connected on three of 15 three-point attempts and were 16-of-57 overall.
Fontbonne returns home to host Harris-Stowe State University on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 p.m.
