St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's basketball was up-ended by Harris-Stowe tonight 84-35. The Griffins fall to 1-2 on the season while the Hornets improve to 4-3.
Fontbonne's guards were rattled early as the Hornet's came out in a pressured man-to-man defense. Senior Emmie Haring got the Griffins on the board first with an early three-pointer but Fontbonne's early 5-2 lead diminished quickly as Harris Stowe flew out to a 22-12 advantage after the first quarter.
Fontbonne struggled with accuracy, making only one of 16 shot attempts in the third quarter as Harris-Stowe outscored the Griffins 23-4. The Hornets were also big on the boards and carried a 57-34 rebounding advantage. They held a 51-point lead with 33 seconds left in the game. Fontbonne even had issues at the free throw line making just eight of 14 attempts. Their 57.1% accuracy was well below the 73.5% from their first two games of the season.
Fontbonne hopes to redeem themselves with another home game over Thanksgiving break, also at home. The Griffins host Central College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 26th.
