Griffins press Eagles to victory
Saint Louis. Mo.- The Fontbonne women's basketball team was ready for the challenge in their final non-conference home game of the season. Facing Robert-Morris University of Peoria, the Griffins came out strong with a commanding 10-point lead after the first quarter, and never looked back. Sophomore, Paige Black, led both teams in total points (14), and three-pointers made (4), a single-game career high. At halftime, the Griffins led 38-21.
Lexi Jarvis led the Griffins defensively with two blocks. Offensively, the Griffins looked smooth behind Emily Haring's 11 assists. Dominating the second half, Fontbonne outrebounded RMU- Peoria 44-35, as well as forcing 21 turnovers, and turning them into 22 points. Freshman Katie Sportsman helped her case with a career-high six offensive rebounds, and the game-high of eight. In the paint, the Griffins took care of business, outscoring RMU-Peoria 34-14. Don't underestimate the bench. Fontbonne's bench raked in 37 points, compared to only 1 from the Eagles. While the Griffins only shot 37% from beyond the arc, it was more than enough to get the job done.
Fontbonne will travel to Louisville on Wednesday, to take on Spalding University before starting a three-game home stand next Saturday at 1 p.m. against Iowa Wesleyan University.
