Walker's 26 points lead Griffins to victory over MacMurray
Sophomore Kaitlynn Walker scored a career-high 26 points while Emmie Haring recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists. Walker also tallied seven rebounds and three steals as Sarah Schraut went 5-of-9 and 12 points. Haring tied her own school-record for single-season assists (149).
Jacksonville, Ill. - Fontbonne sophomore Kaitlynn Walker lit up the night with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting as the Griffins defeated MacMurray for the second time this season. Fontbonne's 81-58 victory gives the Griffins an even slate in the conference standings (5-5) as they advance to a 9-10 overall record. MacMurray has now lost eight games in a row and remain winless in conference.
After leading by only six points at halftime (30-24), Fontbonne led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter. Fontbonne jumped out in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 straight points before recording the game-high 28-point margin.
Walker scored 17 of her 26 points in the first half while junior Sarah Schraut nailed five of her six field goal attempts in the second half, recording all 12 of her points after halftime. Senior Emmie Haring recorded the only double-double in the game with 15 points, 11 assists and four steals. Her final assist of the game tied her own school record for single season assists (149). Walker added seven rebounds and three steals to her totals. Also tallying seven rebounds was freshman Raven Venegas, all on the defensive side of the ball.
The Griffins shot 45.8% in the field overall and 54.5% from long range, their highest of the season. Walker sank three of four treys while Lauren Willis scored two of her three attempts beyond the arc. The Griffins shot 77.8% at the charity stripe, their highest of the season with over 20 attempts, with Haring sinking all eight attempts and Walker all five of hers.
Fontbonne is on the road Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Blackburn College.
