Women's Basketball Picked To Finish Sixth In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2017 Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll today and the Griffins come in at No. 6 with 30 points.

Greenville University, who finished runner-up last year in the title game are picked to finish first with 60 points. Reigning SLIAC Champion, Eureka, meanwhile, enters the year in second place with 55 points. Webster totaled 52 for third place, while Westminster (41) and Spalding (32) round out the top five.
The Griffins (13-13; 9-7 SLIAC), are coming off a fourth place finish in the SLIAC last year and that earned them a spot in the postseason tournament.
The team opened the Semifinals against Eureka who were able to defeat the Griffins, 86-55, ending its season. At the end of the year, FBU took home some hardware as Emmie Haring was named Co-Player of the Year. She also earned First Team All-Conference honors and got named to the All-Defensive Team.
Raven Venegas stood out in her freshman campaign with her being the fifth player in history to be named the Newcomer of the Year.
This season, the Griffins bring back 11 players and leading the way is Kaitlynn Walker after she concluded the 2016-17 campaign averaging a team-high 12.3 points in 30.0 minutes per game. Venegas will also look to build off her first year of 9.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Sarah Schraut will be another player to keep an eye out for as she averaged 7.2 points per game last year and shot a team-high 53.5 percent from the floor.

The Griffins will get its 2017-18 season underway on November 14th in an exhibition outing at Lindenwood University-St. Charles. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
