In the first quarter, neither team shot the ball particularly well out of the gate as they were held to under 32.0 percent shooting. Still, despite the slow start, Guffey's lay-up at 4:08 put them out in front at 8-6. Webster, though closed out the final four minutes on a 5-0 run and led 11-8 after one.
In the second, Rylee Stafford's 3-pointer narrowed the deficit down to 15-13 at 7:34. Webster responded with a 14-6 run over the next four minutes to take a 29-19 advantage on Jade Sawayer's 3-pointer.
The Gorloks continued rolling from there as they held the Griffins to just one bucket the final three minutes and headed into the locker room on top, 41-21.
In the third, the Griffins upped its defense and limited Webster to a mere 23.8 field goal percentage. They in turn shot 53.8 percent from the floor, but still trailed 57-36 going into the final 10:00 minutes of play.
The Griffins needed to get a quick run going in the fourth in hopes of getting back into the game. However, the team was never able to find its rhythm offensively, owning a 26.7 field goal percentage and that allowed the Gorloks to go on for the 29-point win.
Fontbonne looks to bounce back next Wednesday night when they'll square off against first-place Greenville on the road. Tip-off goes up at 6 p.m.
