Black And Venegas Earn SLIAC Third-Team Honors, Ahearn Named To All-Sportsmanship Team
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the 2017-18 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams and the Griffins saw Paige Black and Raven Venegas earn Third Team honors. Colleen Ahearn, meanwhile, was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the 2017-18 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and the Griffins saw Paige Black and Raven Venegas earn Third Team honors. Colleen Ahearn, meanwhile, was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Black, a St. Louis, Missouri, native, picks up her first All-Conference award after having a career year on the court. She was also named to the All-Defensive Team for the first time in her career.
The junior guard averaged new career-highs in points per game (11.0), minutes per game (29.0), field goals made (95), 3-pointers made (63), 3-point percentage (29.7), rebounds (71), assists (64) and steals (66).
After picking up Newcomer of the Year and Second Team awards last season, Venegas, a sophomore, tied her season-average last season of 9.6 points per game. She upped her field goal percentage to 46.8, which is a new career-high, and came away with 27 steals and 12 blocks in 19 games.
Ahearn, wins the award for the second time in her career. She closes out her collegiate career averaging 1.1 points and shooting 24.3 percent from the floor.
