Six Griffins Reach Double-Figures In Win, Schraut Nets Career-High 22

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team opened its 2018-19 season with six Griffins reaching double-figures in an 88-66 win over Robert Morris-Springfield.
The Griffins (1-0), shot 44.6 percent from the floor, drained 11 3-pointers, outrebounded the Eagles 51-38, and forced 20 turnovers.
Individually, Sarah Schraut came off the bench to record a career-high 22 points and pulled down 11 boards. Rylee Stafford shot 50.0 percent from the field to finish with 16 points, while Raven Venegas had 12 points in 12 minutes.
Mallory Proffer totaled 12 points and five boards. Riley Guffey and Jillian Venegas finished with 10 points each.
The Eagles (1-3), shot 39.4 percent and were paced by Deianira Stoudamire's game-high 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting.
In the first, the Griffins jumped out to a 12-4 lead on Stafford's 3-pointer at 5:23. Fontbonne continued to put distance between themselves and the Eagles the rest of the way to take a 27-17 advantage after one.
In the second quarter, the Griffins stretched its lead out to 36-20 on Paige Black's made lay-up. The Eagles went on a 7-0 run to make it 42-31 on Stoudamire's made jumper and that forced Fontbonne to take a timeout.
Out of the break, it was all Fontbonne as they closed out on a 10-0 run and headed into the locker room on top, 52-31.
The hot-shooting continued in the third with the Griffins scoring the first eight points to take a 29-point (60-31) lead. With the team shooting 60.0 percent in the third and holding the Eagles to a 38.9 field goal percentage, the Griffins went into the fourth in control by 24 (74-50).
In the finale, the Griffins maintained its 20-point lead the rest of the way and outrebounded the Eagles 15-10 en route to the 22-point win.
The team now heads to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend and first-up is Ozarks on Saturday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the team takes on host Rhodes at 4 p.m.
