Lynx Pull Away From Griffins In The Fourth

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Heading into the fourth quarter the Fontbonne University women's basketball team trailed by six, however, the Rhodes College Lynx outscored the Griffins 22-3 for the 67-42 win.
The Griffins (1-2), shot 26.2 percent from the floor, pulled down 28 boards, and came away with 12 steals. Individually, Raven Venegas led with a team and season-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Riley Guffey was the final player in double-figures with 10.
The Lynx (3-0), shot 47.5 percent from the field, including going 10-of-13 in the fourth. They also controlled the glass with a 49-28 advantage.
Allie Young led all scorers with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds on 12-of-14 shooting. Kiera Downey contributed 14 points and seven boards of her own.
In the first, the Griffins grabbed a 5-4 lead at 6:17 on Rylee Stafford's made jumper. Later in the quarter, the team cut it down to 11-10 on Guffey's old-fashioned 3-point play. However, the Lynx added a late basket from Alyssa Owens to make it 13-10 after one.
In the second, the Griffins tied the game up at 17-17 on Paige Black's 3-pointer. Over the next five minutes, the Lynx went on a 10-1 run to gain some breathing room with a 27-18 advantage.
Prior to the quarter ending, though the Griffins headed to the locker room with some momentum after Raven Venegas drained her 3-pointer with 55.0 seconds left.
In the third, the Griffins narrowed the Lynx down to 33-28 after Mallory Proffer hit her 3-point attempt. The Griffins went on to shoot 42.1 percent from the floor in the third, but the Lynx connected on 53.8 percent of its attempts and that allowed them to head into the fourth on top by six (45-39).
Fontbonne struggled from the field in the fourth as they went 1-of-13, while the Lynx went 10-of-13 to pull away for the 25-point win.
The Griffins will now take some time off for the Thanksgiving Holiday and return to action at home against rival Webster on November 28th. Tip-off goes up at 5:30 p.m.
