Griffins Hit School Record 16 3-Pointers In Win Over MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team set a school record on Saturday with 16 made 3-pointers in its 93-44 win over MacMurray.
The Griffins (2-3; 1-1 SLIAC), also set new season-high marks in field goals made (35), field goal percentage (45.5), 3-point percentage (35.6), and steals (20).
Individually, Paige Black led with a game and season-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She also added six steals and four assists. Sarah Schraut came off the bench to finish with 14, while Mallory Proffer and Raven Venegas had 12 points each. Rylee Stafford was the final player in double-figures netting 10.
Defensively, the Griffins got after it once again as they forced 39 MacMurray turnovers which turned into 38 points for Fontbonne.
MacMurray (1-4; 0-2 SLIAC), were limited to a 32.6 field goal percentage but did outrebound the Griffins 41-39.
Chassidy Hays had a strong game on both ends of the floor with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Haley Icenogle and Shelby Fink contributed 10 points each.
After the Highlanders made it 9-7 in the first, the Griffins answered with a 7-0 run in one minute time to take a 16-7 lead at the 4:59 mark. They closed out the quarter with a 7-4 advantage as Black's 3-pointer gave them a commanding 23-11 lead.
Fontbonne shot 9-of-18 (50.0 percent) from the floor through the first 10:00 minutes and forced 11 Highlanders turnovers.
It was more of the same story in the second with Stafford's 3-pointer pushing the Griffins lead out to 30-13 at 7:41. The team forced 13 more turnovers in the second and prior the half ending, Chloe Loehr got the ball at the top of the key and drained the 3-pointer to put Fontbonne on top, 42-20.
It was all Fontbonne in the third as they outscored MacMurray 31-12 and hit seven 3-pointers. Defensively, they limited MacMurray to two made shots and seven turnovers to take a 73-32 lead. Black and Proffer led with eight points each. Fontbonne maintained control in the fourth en route to the 49-point win over MacMurray.
The team returns to action this Thursday at home against Principia. Tip-off goes up at 6 p.m.
