Griffins Score Season-High 106 Points For Its Third Straight Win Over St. Mary-Woods

The Griffins (9-10), shot a season-high 57.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Pomeryos 47-46. Raven Venegas set a new season-high with 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
Rylee Stafford contributed 19, while Paige Black and Riley Guffey contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively. Off the bench, Mallory Proffer and Sarah Schraut netted 12 points each.
The Pomeroys (4-14), forced 36 Griffin turnovers but had its struggles after the first quarter finishing with a 34.9 field goal percentage. The team drained 17 3-pointers. 15 players made an appearance for SMWC and Callan Taylor came off the bench to lead with 21 points, all of which came from beyond-the-arc.
In the first, the Griffins had some trouble with ball control early and that allowed the Pomeroys to take a 14-2 lead at the 5:49 mark. Fontbonne chipped away at the lead over the next three minutes and were down 15-10 on Proffer's made free throws.
From there, though the Pomeroys outscored Fontbonne 8-4 the rest of the way and led 23-14 after one quarter of play.
After committing 13 turnovers and making five shots in the first quarter, the Griffins made the necessary adjustments in the second. The team went 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) and limited themselves to just five turnovers.
Delany Jarrett made it a 33-24 advantage for the Pomeroys at the 6:28 mark, however, the Griffins went on a 12-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 36-33 lead on Chloe Loehr's 3-pointer.
SMWC went on to retake the lead at 3:05 on Paetyn Hayes' 3-pointer to make it 42-38. Fontbonne went on another impressive 9-0 run to close out the final minutes to lead by five (47-42).
The hot-shooting continued over into the third quarter. The team shot 65.2 percent from the field and totaled a season-high 36 points.
At 6:55, the Pomeroys trailed 56-50 on Kendall's made jumper. However, that'd be as close as they'd get the rest of the way with Fontbonne finishing out the quarter on a 27-8 run to lead 83-48.
In the fourth, St. Mary-Woods outscored Fontbonne 29-23, but never got to within striking distance as the Griffins went on for the 19-point win.
The team returns to action next Wednesday at home in a key conference game against Westminster. Tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
