Raven Venegas Ties Season-High With 20 Points In Loss Against Blue Jays

The Griffins (9-11; 5-6 SLIAC), shot 42.6 percent from the field, but went 3-of-20 (15.0 percent) from downtown and were outrebounded 45-29.
Raven Venegas had a strong game down low as she tied her season-high with 20 points for the second straight game on 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) shooting. Sarah Schraut contributed 13 points, while Rylee Stafford added 11 of her own.
The Blue Jays (16-4; 10-2 SLIAC), meanwhile, ended with a 52.3 field goal percentage. Kendahl Adams registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, while Kallee Dowler led Westminster with 19 points. Mirrakohl Johnson contributed 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
In the first, a bucket from Schraut at the 4:05 mark trimmed the deficit down to 10-9. Then, Mallory Proffer made both of her free throws less than a minute later and now Fontbonne was on top, 11-10.
Later, a bucket from Raven Venegas put them ahead 15-12 at 1:04 and they maintained its lead in the final minute leading by one (15-14).
After shooting 50.0 percent from the field in the first, the Griffins had its struggles offensively in the second. The team went 3-of-16 from the field, 0-of-6 from beyond-the-arc and were outrebounded 13-4.
Westminster in turn shot 50.0 percent and outscored Fontbonne 24-6 in the quarter to take a 41-21 lead at the break.
In the third, a bucket from Raven Venegas 29.0 seconds in snapped a five-plus minute scoreless streak. Despite, the Griffins improving on its field goal percentage to 50.0 percent, the Blue Jays fared better at 61.1 percent to own a 63-44 lead.
In the fourth, the Griffins outscored Westminster 19-17, though the comeback was not to be with the Blue Jays going on for the 17-point win.
Fontbonne returns to the court on the road on Saturday when they'll look to hand Greenville its first conference loss. Tip-off at 1 p.m.
