Game Breakdown
In the first quarter, the Griffins opened with a commanding 13-3 lead on Lauren Smith's 3-point play at 5:14. The Stars trimmed the deficit down to 15-10 with just over 30.0 seconds left, though returning to the lineup senior Rylee Stafford drained a 3-pointer putting Fontbonne ahead by eight.
In the second quarter, a 7-0 run by the Griffins over a five-minute span gave them the 25-10 lead. The Griffins maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way leading 29-15 at the break.
In the third, the Griffins held its lead throughout with Kya Harbour hitting a 3-pointer with 1:38 left giving them a 38-25 lead. Sam Foppe added a couple of late made free throws giving Fontbonne a commanding 40-25 advantage heading into the fourth.
Both teams shot the ball well in the fourth with the Griffins connecting on 46.2 percent of its attempts, while the Stars shot 50.0 percent.
Despite the Stars improved field goal percentage from the second and third quarters, the Griffins never let Dominican get within seven as they closed out the quarter on a 10-6 run for the 14-point win.
