Women's Basketball Suffers Tough Loss Against Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team trailed by one going into the fourth against Rhodes, however, the Lynx pulled away for the 83-72 win.
In the first quarter, the Griffins took a 9-7 lead at the 5:10 mark on Madison Nelson's layup. The Lynx regained the advantage, but Fontbonne got it back with just under a minute left on another Nelson layup putting them on top, 16-14.
The Lynx tied it on the ensuing possession, however Nelson connected on a 3-pointer giving Fontbonne a 19-17 lead after one.
Fontbonne shot 42.1 percent from the floor in the first led by Nelson off the bench with 12 points.
In the second quarter, the Lynx took a 22-21 lead with 6:42 left on Mackenzie McKown's 3-pointer. The two teams would flip-flop on lead changes, but the Griffins led 33-32 with 1:38 remaining after Rylee Pickett went 1-of-2 from the line.
Rhodes closed out the half on a 9-3 run with Catherine Althoff's free throws giving them a 41-36 advantage at the break.
In the third, the Griffins continued to chip away at the deficit and eventually took a 49-48 lead on Kourtney White's layup. Fontbonne was on top 53-52 with 32.0 seconds left, but the Lynx got a late bucket from Althoff giving them a one-point lead going into the fourth.
In the fourth, a 3-point play by Kya Harbour with 6:33 on the clock put the Griffins down 63-62. The Lynx, though went on a 15-5 run over the next five minutes and were able to go on for the 11-point win.
