Women's Basketball Pulls Away In The Fourth To Pick Up Its Third Straight Win
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women’s basketball team extended its win streak out to three after picking up a big home win over Westminster, 70-64. The Griffins go to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the SLIAC. Westminster falls to 10-8 and 4-3 in SLIAC action.

Ja'mise Bailey led the Griffins with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Madison Nelson added 13 points, while Kourtney White tallied 11 points and eight rebounds. Haley Buscher led off the bench with nine points. All nine Griffins who appeared had at least two points in the victory.
In the first quarter, the Griffins grabbed an 8-3 lead with 6:05 remaining after Bailey hit her layup. They stretched its lead out to 11-5 and maintained its advantage the rest of the way leading 15-9 after one.
In the second, the Griffins were on top 21-13 after Kya Harbour hit both of her free throws. Fontbonne led 26-19 with 3:06 left, but the Blue Jays closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run trailing 26-24 at the break.
Fontbonne led 30-24 a minute and 38 seconds into the third after Rylee Pickett connected on her layup. Westminster responded going on an 8-0 run taking a 32-30 lead on Shelby Kurtz's layup.
From there, the two teams tied on four different occasions but going into the fourth it was the Blue Jays owning a 43-41 advantage.
In the fourth, the Blue Jays led 53-50 with 6:51 left in regulation. The Griffins went on a 3-0 run thanks to Brianna Beamer tying the game up just 29.0 seconds later.
Later, the Blue Jays held onto a 58-55 lead with 4:07 left, but Buscher made her layup putting Fontbonne down one.
Then, the Griffins took the lead back at 3:20 on Bailey's layup. They never let it go closing out the game on a 11-6 run for the six-point win.
Fontbonne saved its best quarter for last offensively going 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) from the field, while holding the Blue Jays to a 42.1 field goal percentage.
The Griffins shot 41.4 percent from the floor and 20-of-28 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line.
