Lady Golfers Compete at Knox and Monmouth Invite
St. Louis-The Fontbonne University women's golf team competed at the Knox Invitational and Monmouth Invitational this past weekend. The lady Griffins finished 8th out of 11 teams at Knox and tied for 6th place out of 13 teams at the Monmouth Invite. Fontbonne shot team scores of 369 and 360 respectively. Their one-day total of 360 at Monmouth yet again breaks the school record for low team total.
Pacing the Griffins in both events was freshman Gina Falvey who posted rounds of 81 and 82. Falvey finished in a tie for ninth place at Knox which featured a field of 68 golfers and placed tied for seventh place at Monmouth. The Monmouth Invite featured 81 golfers.
Sophomore Kaylee Huelsing shot 92 at Knox which was good for a 37th place finish. She turned in a round of 98 at Monmouth placing her 47th overall. Junior Natalie Heck posted rounds of 98 at Knox and 91 at Monmouth which placed her 49th and 30th respectively.
Freshman Mackenzie Griffin fired a 97 at Knox placing her 45th overall and tallied a 95 the next day at Monmouth which placed her 41st. Fellow freshman Ellen Lindner only competed on day two at Monmouth and posted a round of 92 which was good for a 34th place finish.
Freshman Mary Seise turned in rounds of 109 and 106 and finished 63rd at Knox and 66th at Monmouth.
"The girls fought hard all weekend on two very tough golf courses. I see major improvements in all the girls each week and we continue to take steps forward individually and collectively," commented Coach Steve Schafer.
The Lady Griffins are back in action this Thursday as they compete in the "Tri-Match at Aberdeen" The match will feature Fontbonne, Mo-Bap and Lindenwood Belleville's women's golf teams. The match will be played at Aberdeen Golf Course in St. Louis. Tee-times start at 11am.
