Women's Golf Holds Down The No. 2 Spot After Day One Of The SLIAC Championship
EUREKA, Mo. – The Fontbonne University women’s golf team closed out round one of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship in second place with a 131-over par 419.
EUREKA, Mo. – The Fontbonne University women's golf team closed out round one of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship in second place with a 131-over par 419.
Spalding University holds the top spot after scoring a 44-over par 332. Iowa Wesleyan, meanwhile, is right behind the Griffins in third at 132-over par 420.
Individually, Taylor Thompson (Spalding), is atop the leaderboard after scoring a 6-over par 78. She was able to grab the lead early after her strong play on the front nine where she shot a 1-under par 35.
Fontbonne, meanwhile, is led by Maddi Vandervort who's in fourth place after she shot a 14-ovper par 86. Starting on the front nine, Vandervort bogeyed six of the nine holes but earned a par of four, six and seven which is the longest hole of 479 yards.
On the back nine, Vandervort finished at 8-over par 44 but did earn a birdie on the par five 17th at 455 yards.
Hannah Householder also turned in a strong first round with a 21-over par 93 and that was good enough for seventh place. Householder, a Nevada, Mo., native, played well on the front nine after totaling three pars of her own. On the back nine, despite some ups-and-downs, she closed out the day with a par on the 18th hole.
Courtney Kedrowski closed out her day with a 47-over par 119 for 15th place, while Melanie Russo was able to bounce back on the back nine to finish with a 49-over par 121 and that was good enough for 16th.
