Bio

Lance Thornhill was added to the list of full time coaches beginning during the 2014-15 academic year. Thornhill served as head men's and women's golf coach as well as assistant men's basketball coach during that year. For the 2015-16 seasons, he became head men's basketball coach and Director of Golf Operations.

Under Coach Thornhill, the women's golf program became affiliate members of the Midwest Conference, producing a fifth place finish in the 2015 MWC Championship, their first conference tournament in program history. Fontbonne narrowly missed fourth place by two strokes and the Griffins earned their first All-MWC honor in history as well.

As Fontbonne’s head men’s golf coach, Thornhill has led the Griffin's golf team to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championships in 2002, 2004, and 2006. He has been named the SLIAC Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Coach Thornhill graduated from Pattonville High School in St. Louis County, where he was a St. Louis All-Metro performer in basketball and a 5A Missouri state champion in golf. He attended college at Missouri State University playing both sports until an injury forced him off the basketball floor. He continued to excel on the golf course, being selected to the Mid-Continent Conference 1st team three times, and also earning a Player of the Year award. After graduating from Missouri State University, Thornhill went on to pursue a professional golf career, playing on various tours throughout the country.

Coach Thornhill earned his undergraduate degree from Missouri State University and his master’s degree in Business Administration from Fontbonne University while serving as a graduate assistant.
