A slow start proved costly for the Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team as they fell behind Aurora University on Saturday and couldn't recover. The Griffins lost 10-5 to fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC).
Aurora scored four unanswered goals to open the game before junior Tierney O'Brien scored for the Griffins to cut the deficit to 4-1. Aurora scored a late first half goal to push the lead to 5-1 heading into halftime.
Fontbonne played much better in the second half as Aurora outscored them just 5-4 over the final 30 minutes. After being outshot 15-7 in the first half, Aurora outshot Fontbonne just 10-9 in the second half.
Senior Carolann Brenzo had two goals and two assists in the second half while O'Brien scored her second goal of the game and Christine Lowes scored her first of the game.
Fontbonne will return to the field Saturday night hosting Mount St. Joseph College at 7 pm for their Senior Night game.
