Offense struggles to find back of net
St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's lacrosse hosted Mt. St. Joe's last night, hoping to end their seniors' careers with one last win at home. The Griffins fell to the Lions 14-4 and are now 2-7 on the season and 1-5 in MWLC play.
After the Lions scored four goals in a row, senior Nadia Pasque ripped an 8m shot past goalkeeper Paige Apel to get the Griffins on the scoreboard. The first half would end 5-1.
Three goals scored within the first five minutes of the 2nd half would still give Mt. St. Joe the edge at 7-2. The Lions would hold the Griffins scoreless following freshman Paige Pfankuch's free-position goal with 16:35 remaining.
Senior Carolann Brenzo scored two goals for Fontbonne, with one being a free-position shot and the other going unassisted. Junior goalkeeper Tabitha Bennight recorded seven saves in the loss.
Junior attacker Tierney O'Brien and senior Deepkia Williams each scooped up four ground balls by game's end.
The Griffins end their season this weekend after traveling to Carthage College on Saturday and North Central College on Sunday.
