Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener
St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's lacrosse opened their season against the Missouri Baptist University Spartans, falling 17-4.
The Griffins, with only one returner, senior Tierney O'Brien, took to the field for the first time, searching for their rhythm on the field.
Scoring the first two goals of the game, Fontbonne struggled to gain control of the draw, as well as stop the fast break, resulting in 11 straight Spartan goals before halftime.
After the half, Missouri Baptist scored four more goals before Fontbonne found the back of the net once again. The next three goals were scored three minutes after each other to end the game.
Freshmen Griffins Annie McKenzie and Sarah Blasko each scored their first collegiate goals. O'Brien netted two in the loss. Lisa Van saved 12 shots on the afternoon.
Danielle Pfyl scored nine goals and grabbed eight draw controls for Missouri Baptist. Lauren Murray put four goals in the net and assisted four times.
Fontbonne's game scheduled against McKendree University on March 2 has been postponed for a later date due to weather conditions. The Griffins are scheduled to host Rhodes College at noon on March 9th.
