St. Louis, MO- Fontbonne women's lacrosse fell to Carthage College and Concordia University of Wisconsin this past weekend in their Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opening weekend.
Fontbonne couldn't gain control of the draw control, and with Carthage's speedy transition, found it hard to gain possession of the ball. The Griffin defense struggled in front of freshman Kelly Mundwiller in cage, allowing 37 shots. Mundwiller was able to make six saves in the 22-3 loss.
Against Concordia, the sophomore Megan Force found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, reducing the Falcons' lead to three (4-1). Concordia scored 10 more goals before ending the first half 14-1. After a mandatory 10-minute warmup inside due to cold temperatures, Concordia put four more points on the board before Sarah Blasko scored an 8m shot for Fontbonne. Trailing 2-20, Fontbonne scored the final two goals (Tierney O'Brien and Anne McKenzie).
The Griffins are now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in MWLC play. Fontbonne travels to Loras for a 2pm game on Saturday followed by a trip to Beloit on Sunday at noon.
