St. Louis, Mo. - Looking for their first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win this season, Fontbonne women's lacrosse found themselves trailing 11-3 to the University of Dubuque at halftime on Friday. Fontbonne played two players down all game.
The Griffins then found themselves trailing 16-6 with 12:30 to go in the second half. Fontbonne scored five goals before game's end with Dubuque adding another two. Senior Tierney O'Brien led the Griffins with five goals on seven shots. Sarah Blasko scored each of her three shots. Taylor McGowen netted two goals on four attempts and added the only Fontbonne assist in the game. Heather Wiegmann notched her only shot attempt. Savannah Davis reigned in eight draw controls, tieing the school record for most draw controls in a game. In goal, Kelly Mundwiller made 15 saves, her highest of the season.
On Sunday, Fontbonne took on the University of Dallas in the Crusader's final game of the season. Both teams played with 10 players; six on one end, three behind the restraining line and a goalkeeper.
Dallas got off to a 4-0 start in the first four minutes of play. Fontbonne would go on a 7-3 run before halftime. Dallas tied the game with 51 seconds left in the half. Dallas opened second-half play with two goals for a 9-7 lead. Fontbonne scored four unanswered goals to lead 11-9 with 15:22 to go. Each team netted one more goal with the final goal coming from Davis for Fontbonne with 6:51 remaining. Mundwiller made two big saves in the final three minutes and the Griffins were able to run out the final two minutes of the clock for the 12-10 win.
O'Brien scored six goals during the contest, the highest goals scored in a single-game of her career. She also added two assists, five groundballs and four draw controls. O'Brien's eight points is a new single-game school record. Wiegmann and Davis each added another two goals with Blasko and McGowen netting one each. McGowen contributed with an assist as well. Mundwiller saved seven shots in her second win of the season.
