Men's Wrestling Competes At The Maryville Kaufman/Brand/Bayly/ Open

How It Happened
At 125 pounds, Austin Cornell opened up his day with a fall win at 5:00 minutes over Jacob Andrews (Cumberland). From there, he took on Brandon Miller (Campbellsville) but fell by fall at 2:46.
In the consolation bracket, he squared off with Brendan Johnston once again and earned the 14-8 decision victory. He then took on Kooper Loehr, who was wrestling unattached from Purdue, and won by medical forfeit. However, against Miller once more Miller was able to come away with the fall win.
At 133-pounds, Tanner Koester took on Ben Lindley (Lindenwood) and fell by fall at 4:39. In his first match on the consolation side, he was able to defeat Dylan Burton (Cumberland) by fall (1:22). In his next contest, he took on Michael Taylor (Hannibal-LaGrange) and Taylor earned the win by fall (3:58).
Also, at 133 pound, in the elite division, Cody Castelline took on Kolby Smith (Maryville), but fell by fall at 4:01. In the consolation bracket, Alex Waggoner (Maryville), went on to defeat Castelline by an 8-3 decision.
At 141-pounds, David Vance earned a fall victory at 4:01 over Josh Burger (Limeston) to open his morning. From there, he fell by fall at 3:32 against Gage Kassing (Missouri Valley). In the consolation bracket, he fell by fall in 3:58 against Michael Taylor (Hannibal-LaGrange).
Noah Patton also competed in the 141-pound division and after receiving a bye he fell by fall against Chase Wilkerson. In the consolation bracket, he defeated Devin Onwugbufor (Fort Hays State) by medical forfeit. From there, he fell by fall against Blake Ackerman wrestling unattached from the University of Missouri.
In the 165 pound division, Ryan Howerton fell by decision (5-2) against Tucker Caswell (Drury). In the consolation bracket, Howerton took on Drew Kreitzer (Unattached Indinapolis) and fell by sudden victory (9-7).
At 174-pounds, Micah Dennis started off with a 12-7 decision win over Korde Weber (Missouri Valley). He went on to fall by an 8-2 decision against Brian Flanagan (Unattached Lindenwood). In the consolation bracket, he took on Ndayambaje John (Ozarks) and it was John earning the 25-10 technical fall win.
Brian Coombs and Dalton Rawlins also took part in the 174-pound division. Coombs fell in his opener by fall against Austin Manley (Missouri). He went on to fall against Zachary Rutten in the consolation bracket.
Rawlins was the next Griffin to compete in the 174-pound division. He fell by fall against Bret Heil (Maryville) and dropped a major decision against David Bortz (Missouri) in the consolation bracket.
Andrew Warren, competing in the 184 pound division, took on David Ugalde out of the gate and won with a 9-3 decision. He fell by fall against PJ Sterrett from Indianapolis, though in the fifth-place match, he won by forfeit over Jacob Erslon to earn a fifth place finish and collect nine points.
In the 285 pound division, Joseph Johnson fell by fall against William Kinser (Ozarks). In the consolation bracket, he earned a 4-2 decision win over Kaleb Bryant (Lindenwood). In his next match, though Johnson fell by a 4-3 decision against Caleb Carpenter (Findlay).
