The Fontbonne University women's soccer team got a goal and an assist each from freshman Lindsay Godier and senior Kim Carter to beat Iowa Wesleyan University today 6-0. The Griffins improved to 8-8 overall and 5-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Fontbonne also extended their season-high winning streak to five games.
Junior Erica Kaiping opening the scoring just moments into the game as Carter earned the assist. In the 23rd minute, Carter put the Griffins up 2-0 on an assist from Godier. Fontbonne took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Godier scored in the 51st minute to put the Griffins up 3-0. Fontbonne freshman Monica Jane Lopez and junior Jessica Brock scored the Griffins next two goals. It was the first goal of the season for Brock and Lopez. For Lopez, it was her first career collegiate goal. Fontbonne sophomore Emily Davenport scored her third goal of the season in the 88th minute to round out the scoring for Fontbonne.
Fontbonne freshman goalie Haley Hopkins made one save to record her first career collegiate shutout.
Fontbonne returns to the pitch Tuesday night when they play Webster University at 7 pm.
