The Fontbonne University women's soccer team remains undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play by beating Eureka College yesterday 5-0. The Griffins are now 7-3-3 on the season and 3-0 in the SLIAC. Fontbonne has won five of their last six games with their only loss coming to #3 ranked Washington University.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Fontbonne scored three goals in six minutes to break the game wide open. Senior Kelly Lange opened the scoring, blasting in a shot on an assist from senior Erica Kaiping in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Paige Pfankuch scored off a corner kick in the 25th minute and then assisted a goal in the 28th minute by sophomore Kim Meyer.
In the second half, sophomore Lydnsey Godier scored on a volley off a pass from Lange in the 47th minute. Fontbonne junior Kayla Thorpe rounded out the scoring in the 59th minute on assists from Kaiping and freshman Kelly Hobbs. Thorpe now leads the team in goals (6) and points (16).
Junior Meggin Werner and sophmore Haley Hopkins combined in the shutout. It was the Griffins seventh shutout of the season.
Fontbonne will return to the pitch Tuesday night at 7 pm when they travel to Fulton, MO to battle Westminster College.
