St. Louis, Mo. - A slow start on a sunny afternoon turned into a 25-3 shot advantage for Fontbonne by game's end. The Griffins rolled over the Simpson College Storm 3-0 for their fourth win in five games and their fourth shutout of the season.
The Griffins' back line of Paige Pfankuch, Allie Weber, Maddie Redohl and Alex Reiter gave goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti an easy day on the job, allowing the Storm only three total shot attempts.
Fontbonne scored in the 35th minute as Paige Pfankuch's corner kick landed dead center of the goal. Kelly Hobbs came up with the chip-in for her fourth goal of the season and her third game-winning goal.
Fontbonne came out roaring in the second half, posting three shots in the first four minutes of play. The Griffins put their second goal on the scoreboard off some nice up-field passing breaks. Savannah Davis found some air in the center of the field as she passed a long ball up the right side to Kaitlyn Becherer. Becherer worked around her defender, assisting Kayla Thorpe's goal from five yards out (second season goal).
Near the 71st minute, Linsey Klein found Taylor McGowen upfield. McGowen continued the offense threat, passing to Lyndsey Godier on the right side. Godier's goal was her first of the season.
Fontbonne stays at home this Saturday, September 20th for a 1pm matchup against Franklin. Unfortunately live stats will not be available for Saturday's game, however Sunday's matchup against the University of Saint Mary (KS) at 11am will be available.
