St. Louis, Mo. -Fontbonne University women's soccer won their sixth game in a row Wednesday night as they defeated Greenville College 1-0 in overtime. The Griffins extend their record to 14-2-1 and stay unbeaten in conference with a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 6-0 record.
With only two corner kicks in regulation, Griffin fans rose to their feet for the corner kick opportunity in overtime. Junior Paige Pfankuch recorded her ninth assist as sophomore Kelly Hobbs headed the game-winning goal right past Greenville Goalkeeper Hope Brakenhoff. The goal was Hobbs' sixth game-winner and tenth goal on the season.
The Griffins controlled the tempo for the majority of the game, but struggled deep in their offensive territory. Brakenhoff recorded 10 saves on the night for Greenville. Fontbonne's backline allowed just two shots on the night for the Panthers.
Coaches were off both benches, fighting for the win. Ultimately 10 Griffin and nine Panther fouls occurred during the game, with Fontbonne's Ashlynn Reiter receiving a yellow card and well as the Greenville bench.
Fontbonne looks to tie the program's most winning record (15) on Saturday as they play Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. The Griffins are slated to hit the pitch for a 2:00 pm EST start time.
