Women's Soccer tabbed as Runner-Up in SLIAC Coaches Preseason Poll
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne women's soccer has been tabbed to finish second this season in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coaches Poll. The Griffins received 71 total points and received two first-place votes behind Webster University. The Gorloks have gone undefeated in conference play each of the last two seasons and have the past three straight SLIAC Tournaments.
Fifth year head coach Brian Hoener, the 2014 SLIAC Coach of the Year, looks to continue to put the Griffins on the SLIAC spotlight. The team, who finished 15-4-2 last season and broke multiple team records, are vying for the program's first-ever same-season regular-season and tournament Championship titles. A squad full of seniors, the Griffins hope to maintain their defensive stance while putting more offensive pressure on opponents. Last year Fontbonne allowed just 13 goals in conference play, the fewest in the SLIAC. Key returners include starting goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti, top-scorer Kelly Hobbs and defensive anchor and corner-kick expert Paige Pfankuch. Fontbonne returns 13 Griffins and has 11 new student-athletes fighting to make an impact this season.
