Fulton, Mo. - Fontbonne women's soccer opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 shutout loss to Westminster College Saturday. The Griffins are now 3-6 on the year.
Fontbonne trailed early in the game as Westminster scored on a distance shot outside the box into the upper right corner of the goal. The first tally of the match happened in the 13th minute of play. Senior goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti made two saves within 20 seconds in the 17th minute, trying to give the Griffins a chance to retaliate. She would save one more shot before halftime. Westminster netted their second goal in the 88th minute.
Fontbonne's offense produced eight of 11 goals on target while Westminster shot seven on goal of their 11 attempts. Each team received three corner kick opportunities with fouls relatively even with Fontbonne earning 12 and Westminster 11. Westminster received one yellow card in the match.
Fontbonne travels to Millikin Tuesday for a 5:30pm contest followed by a trip to MacMurray College this weekend. The Griffins only return home Tuesday for a Big Bend rivalry matchup at home against Webster at 8pm.
