St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne women's soccer maintained control of the ball pretty much the entire time against Blackburn College tonight, resulting in a 4-0 conference win. The Griffins are now 6-8 on the season and 2-3 in SLIAC play.
Fontbonne's first and third goals came on two of their nine corner kick chances. Both times senior Paige Pfankuch lofted the ball to the opposite side of the net where freshman Leann Smith jumped for the headers. Smith's first collegiate goal was the game-winner for Fontbonne in the 10th minute of play.
Fontbonne's second goal in the 31st minute was much anticipated. At midfield, senior Lyndsey Godier flicked the ball towards Fontbonne's offensive end where junior Natalie Sipole dribbled the ball up the field with zero Blackburn players near her. As Sipole entered the box, she closed in on two defenders and slipped the ball past them to freshman teammate Hannah Andrzejewski for the goal. The goal is Andrzejewski's second of the year.
After a 3-0 halftime lead, Fontbonne secured their fourth golden nugget in the 75th minute. Junior Savannah Davis bent a pass from the near sideline to Godier who stuck up her leg for the put-in near the top of the box.
The Griffins will return to the pitch this Saturday, October 17th when they host Spalding University at 3pm.
