Louisville, Ky. - Fontbonne women's soccer secured the game-winning goal early on in their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Spalding University in a 1-0 victory.
The Griffins scored the lone goal in the seventh minute as Ellen Weaver netted her third goal of the season from Meredith Wendt.
Spalding didn't allow senior Griffin goalkeeper Tayler Pulvirenti an easy shutout. The Collinsville, Ill. native made six of her seven saves in second-half action to ensure the conference victory.
Spalding outshot Fontbonne 12-7 and held the corner kick advantage of 4-1.
Fontbonne will finally host their home-opener as they take on Oakland City this Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m.
