RIVER FOREST, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 outing against Dominican on Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins (0-2), totaled three shots with Daniele Caruso leading with two, while Maddie Tague added the other. In net, Mary Beers came up with two saves.
Dominican (2-0), meanwhile, were carried by the performance of Josseline Williams who scored both goals on four shots.
At the five minute mark, a tough penalty was called on the Griffins inside the box. Williams capitalized on the penalty beating Beers to her left on a low shot to make it 1-0.
From there, however, it was a back-and-forth possession battle and with both teams' defenses standing tall, at the end of the first 45:00 minutes it was the Stars leading by one.
In the second half, the physical play continued but the Griffins were still in it down one. Then, the best scoring chance for FBU came in the 80th minute. A foul was called and they were awarded a free kick from 30 yards out.
Daniele Caruso hammered a line shot right off the cross bar and Maddie Tague tried to bury the rebound, but Stars goalie Abbey Brown came up with the save.
At 88:08, a foul was called on the Griffins from just past midfield. Kaitlyn Tripp lifted the ball over the Griffins defense, allowing Williams to head the ball past Beers and give them the 2-0 lead and win.
The team will now return home for the next four games and first up is Millikin on Saturday. Kick-off begins at 11 a.m.
