ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team got back on the winning track in a big way on Tuesday with the Griffins taking down Oakland City, 7-1.
The Griffins (2-7), outshot the Mighty Oaks 28-9 in the outing. FBU had six different players score and leading the way was Meredith Went with her two.
Ellen Weaver, Kierstyn Weaver, Karlie Peth, Tori Harris and Emily Cardwell all found twine as well. In net, Makayla Hussong picked up the win after making six saves.
In the first half, it didn't take long for Fontbonne to get on the board with Ellen Weaver scoring in the second minute to make it 1-0. After Oakland City tied it in the 14th minute, that would be all the scoring between the two teams with it being knotted at 1-1 at the break.
It was all Fontbonne in the second half as Kierstyn Weaver scored her fourth on the year to give them a 2-1 lead in the 47th minute. Two minutes later, Wendt got in the action scoring her fourth on the season to make it 3-1.
She wasn't done there as she netted another in the 55th minute to make it a commanding 4-1 lead. Later, goals by Peth (59th), Harris (77th) and Cardwell (84th), gave the Griffins the 7-1 win.
